Maybell cannot make milk.
Like all women, cows only make milk after giving birth. Maybell is infertile, making her useless to the dairy farm that bred her. So instead, they used her as the ‘Bell Cow’.
A Bell Cow’s job is to be a foster mother to calves whose biological mothers have been slaughtered. It is also her job to lead young boy calves calmly onto trucks meant for the slaughterhouse.
For 7.5 years, she was a mother to 100s of calves, only to lead them to their end, wondering why she never saw them again.
Luvin Arms rescued her from this horrific life. On the day of rescue, the dairy farmer said, “Good thing you are taking her, I had decided to put a bullet in her.”
When Maybelle first came to Luvin Arms, she was grieving and confused. Here she met Devi, who was also rescued from dairy and who had also lost her daughter. Devi helped Maybelle heal. They became immediate best friends and slowly, Maybelle began to come out of her shell and trust and love freely again.
Today she is Luvin Arms’ most universally loving cow. She loves giving everyone kisses on their hands, jackets, and faces. Every Valentine’s day, we set up ‘Maybelle’s Kissing Booth’ where visitors can come and get a kiss from Maybelle!
